How to Volunteer
KAU is a 100% volunteer-run organization from our coaches to the Board of Directors. It takes people like you to make our league successful. To volunteer with KAU, just email [email protected] with the role you're interested in!
Background Check Process
In 2015, the state of Pennsylvania enacted a new law to enhance the safety and protection of the youth in our state. While there are multiple requirements you must complete in order to actively participate as a volunteer, we've worked to make it as clear as possible for you. These requirements apply to all current and prospective managers, coaches, and other volunteers.
Required Steps:
1. Little League Volunteer Form. This form is required on an annual basis, and can be downloaded and printed here: Little League Volunteer Form. Please print, complete and sign this form being sure to include your social security number and date of birth. Once complete, take a picture of the form and a copy of your driver's license, and upload both of these documents in step 6.
2. Complete the Little League Abuse Awareness Training (FREE) which is required as of 2024. Go here and click on "Abuse Awareness for Adults" about half way down the page. It can be completed in 30 minutes. Please save the certificate of completion to upload in step 6.
3. Criminal History Clearance from the PA State Police: (FREE) This is obtained by the volunteer going directly to PA State Police Criminal History and completing the application. Click "New Volunteer Record Check". It takes a few minutes to complete the form, and another few minutes to actually run the background check. Typically, the clearance certificate is generated almost immediately and can be printed within minutes right from the web site. KAU requires a copy of this certificate. It will be kept in your volunteer file and is good for 5 years. If you already have this clearance certificate, please provide a copy to KAU. Upload this document in step 6.
4. PA Department of Human Services Clearance (FREE): This is obtained by the volunteer going directly to PA Dept of Human Services Clearance and completing the online application form. It takes a few minutes to complete the form. However, the results may take up to 2 weeks to be completed (usually less than 7 days). Once "approved", you will be notified by them via email, and the clearance certificate can be accessed and printed from their web site at that time. You will also have the option of having a hard copy of the clearance certificate mailed to you. KAU requires a copy of this certificate. It will be kept in your volunteer file and is good for 5 years. If you already have this certificate, please provide a copy to KAU in step 6.
5. FBI Background Check (Complete A or B, depending on how long you have lived in PA)
Option A: If you have resided in PA for the last 10 years, complete the Background Check Confirmation form. This is free and you can download and complete the form here: Background Check Confirmation. You will need to upload a copy of this form in step 6.
Option B: If you have NOT resided in PA for the last 10 years, you must complete a fingerprint based background check submitted through the PA Department of Human Services. This process involves 2 steps: 1) registering and paying online at https://www.dhs.pa.gov/KeepKidsSafe/Clearances/Pages/FBI-Fingerprinting.aspx, and then, 2) physically getting your fingerprints taken at an authorized provider location. This process will take several weeks to complete. Once this process is completed, it results in a clearance letter being mailed to you directly. You may be able to obtain your letter online. KAU requires a copy of this letter uploaded in step 6.
6: Upload all forms and certifications. Once all requirements have been completed, all forms and confirmations need to be uploaded to the Google Form here.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation regarding the new background checks required to be a volunteer with KAU Little League.
